About Habitat Houses
What Our Homes Have to Offer.
An Opportunity for Affordable Homeownership
East Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity homes offer low to moderate income households an opportunity for affordable homeownership through built or rehabilitated, energy-efficient houses. Buyers partner with ECM Habitat to pay an affordable mortgage (typically under 30% of their income) and complete financial education, alongside contributing "sweat equity" hours.
Key features and benefits of Habitat homes often include:
- Affordability: Homes are sold at a price families can afford, typically designed as family-oriented, multi-bedroom, single-family houses with modern, durable materials.
- Energy Efficiency: Many homes are built to high energy-efficiency standards (such as ENERGY STAR), lowering utility costs for families.
- Quality Construction: Built by volunteers and skilled professionals, featuring modern kitchens, bathrooms, and sometimes appliances like refrigerators and ovens.
- Support & Education: Homebuyers receive coaching and financial education to prepare for homeownership responsibilities.
