Veterans Build Program
More than a thank you!
The primary difference between building and rebuilding (or renovating) a Habitat for
Humanity home for veterans lies in the project's scope: building involves constructing a new home from the ground up, while rebuilding involves repairs, renovations, or critical improvements to a home that a veteran already owns. Both initiatives fall under Habitat’s "Veterans Build" program, which seeks to provide safe, affordable, and accessible housing through local affiliates. Every veteran deserves more than just a “thank you” for their service. We believe no veteran should ever have to be without a home in the country they served.

Building from the ground up
Homeownership
East Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity volunteers and homebuyer help build homes for veterans and veterans living with their families.
Habitat and volunteers build affordable, interest-free mortgages tailored to veterans in order to support their independence, safety, and recovery, particularly for those with life-altering injuries.
Applicants must be U.S. veterans/service members living in the East Central Minnesota area (Pine, Isanti, Chisago, Kanabec and Mille Lacs counties) for at least a year, meet income guidelines, and have a need for housing.
Family members or friends can provide "sweat equity" labor on behalf of a disabled veteran who is physically unable to contribute 200 hours of sweat labor.
Rebuilding Together
Home Repair Program
A home repair program that provides modifications, repairs and painting for low-income veteran homeowners and veteran homeowner veterans living with their families.
It focuses on improving safety, accessibility, and independence, allowing veterans to age in place.
Services include safe and healthy home assessments, rehabilitation, accessibility modifications (like ramps and grab bars, raised toilet seats, widening doors) and essential system repairs (HVAC, plumbing and electrical).
